What would I like to accomplish? I’d like to teach a class to students that changes their lives: a class that gets them to think for themselves and a class that makes them want to be somebody, that makes them want to be their best selves. I want my students to dream big, work hard, and create good art, meaning that I want them to be able to create things that they are proud of and that make the world a better place.
I’ve incorporated many new technologies into my classroom over the last 6 years. The teacher I am today and the way my students are learning is very little like the education I was given in high school. I’ve tried to take the best of my college classes, what I’ve learned since graduating, and put it at a level that my high school students can be pushed to and then I try to get them there.
That being said I should probably set some more specific goals or they won’t get done:)
Goal For My Classes That I’m Teaching In The Fall
Completely incorporate Edmodo into all my classes. Specifically, I want to use it right off the bat for building a class rapport and social learning and for turning in all major assignments. I’m going to use it to help create a strong class culture of learning.
Goals for summer learning:
- Research and learn more about Twitter and using it for professional development
- Create an education blog where I can share what I’m working on with the world
- Connect with my classmates to learn what they are doing that is successful in their own classes
- Research using social media for personal learning network creation. Specifically I would like to look into Google+
My ideal teaching practice would be to use the tools I’m currently using better in my classroom. Currently I’m using Gmail, Google Docs, Blogger, WordPress, Youtube, Animoto, Wikipedia, Edmodo, and Prezi in my classroom. Many of these tools have helped me connect better with my students, increased their ability to connect with each other and with me, and overall made possible the creation of much more authentic and interesting work. I want to continue that mission to create engaging lessons that inspire them and teach them the most important history and skills they will need for the rest of their lives.
I want to grow and improve as an educator and as a person. I want to be able to understand my students better and I want to be able to build a truly collaborative classroom. I’m also very excited to learn from my colleagues in this class!
