I will be using RSS through my social magazine reader “Flipboard” on my iPad. Flipboard is exactly like an RSS reader, except that it puts your subscriptions in a beautiful visual layout of tiles. Flipboard mimics the experience of reading a magazine and makes subscribing to and reading about your interests easy. You can even log in to your social networks and follow your Facebook or Twitter feeds through Flipboard too. It’s really pretty magical. Some of my favorites that I’m following right now are:
#sschat (social studies chat on Twitter)
I think all of you would really enjoy Flipboard. I use an app called Pocket to save any articles from my Flipboard that I want to come back to later. I also sometimes use Evernote for this as well.
Social magazine readers like Flipboard are the new way to use RSS. So much so that most people probably don’t even know they use RSS, which is a good thing! Right now I have not used any of these with my students, but in the future I might consider it, especially if my school went one to one or in some way made their mobile device policy more open.
