I plan to use Flipboard and Twitter for social bookmarking professional development. These services and apps are the best social bookmarking sites around today. In the past I’ve tried Diigo and Delicious and have not found success with them, mainly because I’ve had a hard time finding new networks of teachers to connect with using these tools and I’ve also found their usability to be clunky sometimes too.
With Flipboard and with Twitter there are large groups of teachers looking to connect and share ideas on teaching. You are able to link to and create lists of your favorite sites and resources. In Flipboard, you can create boards about specific topics and in Twitter you can share resources using hashtags that will organize topics for different groups. Plus all this is saved as a resource and history for you. If people want to find out what you are interested in or you want to develop resources you can just ask them to follow your boards on Flipboard or your tweets on Twitter.
One thing that has stopped me in the past has been I’ve fallen out of the habit of using these resources regularly, but what will help me now in the future is I use Flipboard is my main reader as well as my main source of bookmarking. This will enable me to stick with my social bookmarking plan because I will be using it on a regular basis!
